Chapter 1: This Was Me

When Joey asks for the check at the restaurant where he and the other guys, along with Téa eat,
he’s told by the waitress that the check was taken care of. Though we never see it, it’s implied that Kaiba paid for their tab. Téa doesn’t remember this until much later, and when she asks Seto about it, he admits he did.

When Joey observes Téa as an “ordinary, gorgeous” girl, it’s a hint to the former crush he had on Téa that comes up later in the story. This isn’t actually too far a cry from canon– Joey seems to love irritating Téa in the manga (if you use the dubbed names– otherwise it’s Jounouchi and Anzu), and Téa once complained that the boys only invited her out to play basketball
so they could see her panties.

Though Joey complains about Téa (and ruining his attempts to “make Yugi a man,”) he always goes back and does it again, even when he knows she’ll yell at him for it. This is an indication of a sub-plot that comes up later on in the story. Can you guess what?

Chapter 9: Boy Season

The final clue found in the envelope in Mr. Gardner’s office contains a safe deposit box number and its password; it also has a number that won’t be decrypted until Chapter 11.

Chapter 10: Separation and then…

The order of classes for Téa and the others (except for the boys in 6°) is as follows:

  • 1° – History (Kinomoto)
  • 2° – Japanese Literature (Eba)
  • 3° – Home Economics (Higurashi)
  • 4° – Trigonometry (Furuhata)
  • LUNCH
  • 5° – English (Ninomiya)
  • 6° – Physical Education/Gym (Misao) In the gyms or outside, rather than in class 2B
  • 7° – Chemistry (Takahashi) In the science lab, rather than in class 2B

Thus, when Téa leaves campus, it’s just after 5th period– before gym and chemistry. She’s gone to five out of her seven classes– just a little more than half. Later on, when the boys note that she was gone “half the day,” it’s because in addition to classes, there’s after-school cleaning duty, along with clubs (in Téa’s case, dance club).

Chapter 11: All That I Need

When everyone arrives at the Kaiba mansion, they don’t recognize it. Why? Because the manga arc in which Yugi, Joey, and Tristan went to Kaiba’s mansion never happened! WDKY follows the Toei animation for many of the pre-Duel Monsters anime storylines, with further detail from the manga where necessary. But in the WDKY-verse, no one has ever been to the Kaiba mansion before; they’ve only heard of it.

When Téa receives her gift from Yugi, it’s a makeup set designed to be like one of Téa’s favorite Duel Monsters cards, the Dancing Fairy. Yugi says this is possible because he owns 60% of the stocks in Industrial Illusions, part of his prize from winning the Duelist Kingdom tournament. The fact that he owns a majority of shares makes him a controlling member of the board, with
suggestions regarding products and marketing. The rest of the shares are split between other members of the board (less than 2%), while Pegasus retains the rest. Duke later corroborates this in Chapter 16, and Pegasus himself mentions it in Chapter 24.

Chapter 14: Stronger

Joey implies that he slept with Mai (in Chapters 1011) when he admits to Téa that he’s “stayed over” at Mai’s house before, and that he didn’t have to sleep on the couch.

When she’s trying to find out why Joey got upset with Mai at her birthday party (Chapter 11), she realizes Joey and Mai’s relationship has progressed, and implies that Joey’ is in a deep  relationship with Mai.

She suspects they’re romantically/sexually involved, but she doesn’t realize Joey has spent multiple nights with Mai, sleeping with her; thus, when Joey “kinda-sorta” admits that, Téa is surprised.

Earlier, Seto expressed some jealousy over Téa wanting to return home with Joey in a limousine rather than with him on the motorcycle; later, he is equally jealous at how close Joey and Téa seem. He recalls Joey’s confession (from Chapter 10) of having a former crush on Téa (based off events from manga Vol. 1, when Joey and Tristan “panty-tanked” her with a ruler, and blushed when she yelled at him for various things), and wonders if Joey is really over it.

Chapter 22: An Ancient Enemy

  • Téa hears the news report about Kaiba being at Duel Dome at approximately 6pm on Friday, April 9th.
  • She and Mokuba leave the Kaiba mansion shortly thereafter, and arrive at the Duel Dome by about 7pm. They see the last few minutes of Kaiba’s duel versus the simulated Yami Yugi,
and when the system overloads and Kaiba leaves, Téa confronts him. Their “fight” takes about five minutes, and Téa leaves the Duel Dome. Instead of returning home, she goes to Domino Park.
  • At approximately 7:30pm, she finds a flyer talking about a new Egyptian exhibit at the Domino Museum of History.
  • At the same time (but in Duelist Kingdom, near the Hawaiian Time Zone, and over the International Date Line), Pegasus has a dream about the Gods being “sucked in” by
the Pyramid of Light. It is about 12:30am on Friday there.
  • Kaiba leaves the Duel Dome at approximately 8pm on Friday night, at the same time Malik promises to Téa that everyone will go to the Domino Museum of History the following day to check out the new exhibit. Kaiba’s flight takes about 8 hours (yes, even with the
super-high-powered jet engines), which means he gets to Duelist Kingdom by 4am Saturday Japan time (Tokyo/Domino), and it’s 9am on Friday there at Duelist Kingdom (US/Hawaii).
  • Pegasus gets ready for the duel (takes about 15 minutes) and heads down from his tower chambers to the dungeon sanctuary/dueling arena (10-15 minutes). The duel lasts about 20 minutes, so Kaiba manages to leave within an hour of when he arrived (by 10am Friday). The return flight takes another 8 hours, and because of the time difference, he doesn’t get back
    until 1pm Saturday (Tokyo/Domino), or 6pm Friday (US/Hawaii).
  • The chains that bound the Anubis sarcophagus in the movie were changed to ropes in WDKY, since chains were invented as early as 225 BC (at most 2300 years ago), not 3000 or 5000 years ago, when the “Ancient Egyptian” period of Yu-Gi-Oh! took place.

Chapter 23: Legends Once Lost

  • At the time that Kaiba gets back to Japan, Téa and the others are leaving Domino High (it was a half-day of school) to head to the museum and check out the new exhibit. By this time, it’s about 2pm on Saturday. Joey, Tristan, and Duke get sidetracked by a mob of duelists, so Joey duels for the next hour and a half or so. He, Tristan, and Duke decide
that even if Yugi made it to the museum, he probably saw the exhibit and left by now, so they decide to head to his house, instead.
  • Yugi, Serenity, Malik, and Téa spend about two and a half hours in the exhibit. Toward 4:30pm, there’s a blinding white light and an earthquake– and the mummy of Anubis and the Pyramid of Light go missing.
  • Yugi has a vision that prompts him to leave the museum and find Kaiba. Mokuba, having already met up with his brother back at the Duel Dome, finds him first, and they go to Yugi’s house to retrieve Yugi’s Duel Disk (takes about 15 minutes to get from the museum to Yugi’s house, and for Yugi to get his Duel Disk). Joey, Tristan, and Duke arrive right as Yugi and Mokuba leave. They get to the Duel Dome by 5:30pm, with Joey and Tristan shortly behind.

Chapter 24: Perfect Victory

  • The duel starts around 5:45pm or so, with sunset happening all the while. Up until Anubis interferes, the duel went on for about 20 minutes (until 6:05pm). But when Anubis takes over, he makes his speech (5-10 minutes) while Yami stalls for time.
  • When Anubis fully took over and Téa got sucked into the Pyramid of Light nebula (where Yugi, Joey, Tristan, and Duke already were), Bakura lent his powers to her and collapsed. That was around 6:15-6:20.
  • At about 6:30pm, Yugi breaks through Anubis’ defenses within the Pyramid of Light, and is able to allow the Shining Dragon to destroy the Pyramid of Light, and thus bring back the three God cards that were removed from play. With it, he destroys Anubis and Thinien the Great Sphinx.
  • Yami then went to help out Kaiba, but just as he made to help his rival up, Anubis’ jewel began to glow and emit a dark shadow. By the time the darkness fully coalesced into a being, it was about 6:40pm.
  • Beast!Anubis summoned Inferno Tempest and Fallout; the amount of time it took for Téa to realize what was happening and block Anubis’ attack was about 1 minute, plus or minus a few seconds. There was a very brief pause as angry beast!Anubis confronted Téa for deflecting his attack (meant for Kaiba), but then she blocked his succeeding attack a mere minute or two later. Joey and Pegasus provided a distraction and a means of escape for the others still trapped in the upper galleries (Serenity, Duke, Tristan, Malik, Mokuba, Solomon) for about five minutes, at which point a VERY angry beast!Anubis aims to attack Yugi, Kaiba, and Téa in the arena again. Yugi manages to summon the Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon, and destroys Anubis once and for all. About ten minutes later, everyone’s escaped the area mostly-unscathed, and they talk for a short while (until around 7:00).
  • Everyone’s about to leave when Yami asks Téa if they can talk; they do, but theirs is a short-lived “conversation” (about 5 minutes). Téa storms away from him, but faints backwad into Malik’s arms just before she, Kaiba, and Mokuba reach their limousine. Those left talk for a few minutes (until about 7:10). Everyone else leaves shortly thereafter, leaving Malik and Pegasus at the ruins; Malik and Pegasus exchange a short conversation (about 3 minutes;
    it’s now about 7:13-7:15).
  • Bakura awakens about 10 minutes later, overhears Valon, Alister and the as-yet-unnamed Raphael talking. About 3 minutes later (7:30ish), Bakura gets the strength to walk toward the remains of the Duel Dome, where he approaches Pegasus and confronts him. Their conversation lasts about 10 minutes.

Chapter 25: Summer Heat

When Téa tells Seto “I do want to, Seto. But not like this,” it’s a reference to Seto’s own line from Chapter 19, when he and Téa came close to making love on St. Valentine’s Day. They stopped because Seto didn’t want to be with her if she was sick (and therefore wouldn’t enjoy it as much). When Téa says it, however, she’s saying that she does want to make love to him, just not downstairs in the cold basement, and not at a party they’re hosting when all their friends are just upstairs.
